Valaciclovir came from the idea of val-ay-sye-kloe-veer. This drug
has proved to be very effective in curing of herpes zoster which is
also popularly known as shingles. It is also used to treat and
prevent genital herpes infections. Valaciclovir was studied,
examined and manufactured by the GlaxoSmithKline Company which is in
Research Triangle Park of New York.
It was a joint venture of this company and the Valtrex. At present
Valaciclovir which is sold under brand name Valtrex is available in
different form of pills present in varying concentrations.
Valaciclovir at present is available in three different variants:
one is in the form of oral pill, other in the form of orally
disintegrating pallets which gets disintegrated with the action of
saliva which is present in mouth and the third one in the form of
solution.
The first manufacturer to produce Valaciclovir was GlaxoSmithKline
which also acquired patent for Valtrex. Many companies are producing
Valaciclovir under different brand names. To name a few: Sangel
Pharmaceutical & Chemical Factory which is present in china, Zunis
Life sciences Pvt. Ltd. Located in India, and Qufu Hong Chemical
Industry Co., Limited also located in China.
