Valaciclovir is used to attack and prevent the infections that cause
virus in the body. This includes herpes simplex viral infections,
shingles and the genital herpes. Certain side effects should be kept
in mind before practicing the medication of this drug. Kidney
patients should not take this drug as it may lead to failure of the
kidney.
Vomiting, pain in the joints, dizziness and increase in the enzymes
of the liver are some of the common side effects of the drug. A side
effect does not mean any compulsion they are just a chance of
happening. If the medicine id taken as prescribed and the dose is
complete there are very less chances of the side effects to take
place.
Some side effects of the drug that are not to severe are the
headache, rashes on the skin, drowsiness, state of confusion, nausea
diarrhea and pain in the abdomen. Some also face the hallucination
problem. The safety of this medicine during the pregnancy has not
been found. So it is advisable not to take it unless prescribed by
the doctor.
The same goes for the breast feeding mothers also. This medicine is
not at all compatible with cimetidine, mycophenolate and probenecid
drugs as it may lead to adverse conditions related to the blood
levels of the body and so should be avoided. The kidney and lever
functions can also be affected due to this drug and so due care
should be taken. To avoid all such side effects the best idea is to
complete the course of the medication and take it at regular
intervals.
