Working and treatment of Valaciclovir - Valtrex
Valacyclovir is an effective drug used in the treatment of viral infections. It helps the body to fight against the infections that are the caused of virus. These infections cause the virus to multiply. This drug prevents this multiplication. When the drug is used to treat genital herpes it acts differently. In this case its main function is to avoid the virus from spreading to other person and also prevents the outbreaks from recurring.

Valacyclovir is very easily and speedily converted to the active form. This takes place by the hepatic metabolism called the acyclovir. Acyclovir is than converted to its monophosphate form. This process takes place due to thymidine kinase. a potent inhibitor of viral DNA is the aciclo-GTP.It has 100 times more efficiency and affinity to virus than the cellular polymerase. This state also results into chain termination. This in turn is converted to its triphoshate form due to the cellular enzymes.

This is the form that plays the main role. Acyclovir triphosphate inhibits the viral DNA synthesis and thus prevents the viral infections. This drug has greater oral bio availability which is about 60% as compared to acyclovir which is only 10% to 20%.Valaciclovir does not kill the virus by itself. It prevents the further growth of it. If lower numbers of virus are produced the body’s immune system is able to overcome the viral infections easily. The herpes zoster is treated by lessening the healing process, alleviates pain and also other chronic problems. The drug is more suitable for patients suffering form this trouble and having age more than 50 years.
